I got asked to do a “craft that involved some food” for my daughter’s 4th grade class’s Halloween party. I went into my “Holiday Ideas Notebook” (the days before Pinterest) and pulled out an idea I’d saved from Martha Stewart Living. It was a witches broom made from paper bags.

I am sad to say that last Halloween was an end of an era. And I am embarking on new ground this Halloween. You see in the past we have had family themed costumes. We usually based our theme on the kid with the strongest interest at the time. Elle ruled the roost for the first few years and we dressed up around her. Then Crew grew an opinion.

Every once in awhile I impress myself. And last year, when I was putting away my Halloween decorations, was one of those times. But I didn’t realize it then. It wasn’t until this year, when I pulled out my bins, that I was really impressed.

Today, October 24, marks the one year anniversary of my very first blog post ever! The blog was Monday Night Manners. I am still pretty proud of my inaugural post, and I thought I would repost it here for those of you that weren’t with me back in the day.

When Croft saw that it was F week on the family chalkboard, her eyes lit up and she said, “Mom, I know what we can do for F week! We can do something FUN!” I hope the week met her expectations.

I pinned my first idea on Pinterest last week. And then I pinned another and another and a half hour later the table was still not set and I had no vegetable ready to go with my enchiladas. Not to mention I felt depressed. I have been reluctant to return to the dangerous land of Pinterest since.
