On Motherhood and God and { Locke }

To say Locke was a surprise is an understatement. A new year started (2009) and I set a goal to lose 40 pounds. I went to the gym every day for about three weeks and I went on a diet.  But I would come home exhausted from workouts and  I would have to take long naps. I also had bad headaches each day which I thought was because I went off sugar. I was telling a friend about my experiences and she suggested I might be pregnant. No way! That was impossible! I was on birth control pills and I was done having kids as far as I was concerned!

Well, it turned out I was pregnant. I remained in the metaphorical fetal position for 9 months having difficulty accepting this reality.  In fact, I still did not have a crib set up for baby (or a name picked out) when I went to the hospital.  Then Locke came and it took me about 1 second to love him. He completed our family. 2 boys and 2 girls.

Now Locke is a little doll and he is my biggest snuggler.  He loves to be the center of attention and make us all laugh. I am happy Crew got a brother; he needed a wrestling buddy.  Elle and Croft fight over who gets to read to him.  We all love him and of course we can’t imagine our life without him.    Every time we say “girls on that side, boys on this side” or “boys with mom, girls with dad” I am happy inside. God knew the balance of the numbers would make me happy for years to come.

Locke’s birth taught me that God has a plan for your life.  And His plan for your life is always better than your plan for your life. He knows what we need and what will bring us the ultimate happiness in the long run.  Since God knows what He is doing, I gotta remember to trust him more.

(And by the way, I did lose 40 pounds in 2009; I just gained 60 pounds first. Be careful how you state your goals. God has a sense of humor too.)

    “God knew the balance of the numbers would make me happy for years to come.”

    This sentence just encompasses you so much. 🙂

  2. Love it! I am learning quickly that God does have a plan for each of us wether we like it or not and he most certainly has a sense of humor! 🙂

  3. OH he desperately needed to come into your family and the even number thing is SO you! I love this little Locke boy and just felt you should know karma is a “B” because I will be way prego for Blake’s wedding in August. Christmas card..yikes! haha

    1. Just make sure the photographer doesn’t stick you on the end with a little kid’s head in front of you to emphasize how big you are.
