On Motherhood and God and {Croft }

I loved Elle and Crew  equally, but since one was a girl and one was  a boy there wasn’t much comparison.  But with another girl coming,  I was a little nervous that I wouldn’t love my girls the same.  What if one was cuter than the other one?  What if one was a girly girl and the other was a tomboy?  Could I really love the cheerleader as much as the volleyball player? I wasn’t sure I had it in me.

Well, it turns out both my girls are cute and despite my best efforts, both are girly girls .  They both have blue eyes, red hair and a temper to go with it, but that is where the similarities end.  Elle respects authority; Croft takes it on.  She doesn’t care if you’re grandma, dad, or the babysitter.  She will stand up to you and tell you like she thinks it is.  Elle wants you to tell her how to do it; Croft wants to tell you how to do it.  She is independent and a problem solver and is full of her own ideas.  Elle has her dad’s fingers, legs, and toes.  Croft has mine.

I appreciate my girls strengths and weaknesses.  The diversity makes our family better. And it turns out, with all their contrasts,  I do love my girls equally.  (Although on any given day, I might like one more than the other.)

I learned that if I can love two people so completely equally, so can a perfect God.  I had always heard that “God is no respecter of persons” and I used to think that meant that He didn’t respect people.  But it actually means that He doesn’t have favorites- that He loves us all the same.  He loves me just as much as He loves Her. I didn’t believe this was possible until I loved Croft and Elle the same.   And as I treated my two girls differently, because they are different and have different needs, I realized that is why it seems God treats us differently.  It is not because He loves Her more than me,  rather He is responding to our individual personalities and needs because He really does love us all the same.
