Pin the Wart on the Witch

If you need an idea for a Halloween class party game or a family get-together, I’ve got one for you.

I did “Pin the Wart on the Witch” for my son’s Halloween party at school last year and it was so fun.  And by the way, the wart was a chewed piece of bubble gum.  This game works best with small group rotations.

Here is what you will need:

A BLINDFOLD.

GUM. I used Double Bubble gum.  The grape kind would be fun for affect.

A WITCH. Before the party, I had my son (and his buddy) draw a big witch face on a piece of white poster board.  (This took the pressure off me to have the perfect looking witch and my son loved the art project.)

They used a combination of markers and water colors.  I had them exaggerate the nose because the goal is to pin the wart on the tip of the nose.  (They were so proud.)

A GARBAGE BAG OR TARP.  When we got to the party, I made sure that I was not near carpet and that I had a garbage sack on the floor.  You might also want one behind the picture, in case they miss the posterboard all together.

Here is how you play:

CHEW. I had the children chew a piece of  Double Bubble. Make sure they chew the gum long enough or it is too juicy and doesn’t stick.

BLINDFOLD.  After chewing for a bit, I blindfolded them one at a time and spun them around.   As I spun the one child, the other kids in the group sang a Halloween song that they had learned in class that year. I stopped spinning when the song was over.  This kept the waiters engaged in the game.  For older kids, you could have the group spell H-A-L-L-O-W-E-E-N as you spin.

PIN.  Then they pinned the gum/wart on the witch.  Remember the goal was to get the wart on the tip of the nose.

Here are a few things I learned along the way:

ASK. Check with the teacher to make sure she is okay with gum at school.

TWO. Have 2 witch pictures because it can get pretty gross.  We traded out pictures half way through the class rotation.
