R Week

It is R week! And as fate would have it, I was responsible for Fairy Tale Friday at Croft’s school and our fairy tale was … Rumpelstilskin!  R week ruled!  Here we go…

ACTIVITY:

We went rock climbing and the kids rocked it!  Croft reached the top many times despite her footwear.

The other kids didn’t mind being roped into R week’s activity either.

FOOD:

On the healthy side, we sampled red radishes
and I made a homemade ranch dip with all natural ingredients.   My kids didn’t rave about either one.

On the not so healthy side, we visited Grandpa Randy and he made us his famous Rollie Pollies.

My dad really went all out.  He gave all the kids R nicknames and he used as many R words as possible all morning.  He wore my mom’s red robe despite the risk to his reputation.  (I warned him it would be on the blog.)

And because we couldn’t have our Redding cousins with us, he put their picture on the table as a centerpiece.

Grandpa Randy rules!

Here is Grandpa Randy’s Rollie Pollie recipe.  (And to be clear if you use this recipe, you are not allowed to call them crepes.)

4 eggs

1 c. flour (We use whole wheat flour)

1 c. milk

2 T. sugar

1 t. salt

Mix in blender until most lumps are out, but don’t mix too long or the rollie pollies will be too thick.  Pour thin batter onto buttered griddle on medium to high heat.   Flip. Top with buttermilk syrup, powdered sugar, jam or maple syrup.

CRAFT:

Croft made a ribbon rainbow out of my scrap ribbons.

LEARNING:

Croft had the great idea to read for R week.  So we spent time snuggled up on the couch together reading.

Here is an R hidden picture to color:

R week was rad! To recap: We rocked; we rolled; we ribboned and we rested.

Up next S week…
