Victory!

A few months ago, I did a post called Battle of the Bedroom where I outlined different strategies that I tried to get my oldest daughter to clean her room.  Although those methods were unsuccessful, I am happy to report that I tried one last tactic and…..Victory!

Elle has kept her room clean and her bed made every day for over 2 months!

Here was my strategy:

I gave Elle her own bedroom and redecorated it. And Elle had a voice in the decor.  I gave you a sneak peek of her new bedroom in my Obsessed post.

The full reveal of the bedroom is posted today on The Turquoise Piano.  This is my friend’s blog that focuses on thrifty home decor.  I reused and repurposed a few items and did a few craft projects in Elle’s new bedroom so Kelli let me guest post.  Click here if you want to see the different projects and how the room turned out.

Now this tactic wasn’t easy and it wasn’t cheap, but I really believe there is something to ownership and accountability.  All of us take better care of things when we own them or choose them.  Now Elle can’t blame any messes on her little sister and she can get up when she wants and start cleaning.  She no longer has to wait for Croft to wake up.  And Elle thinks her room is beautiful because she helped with the process.  Therefore, she cleans her room everyday.

Now the fights are about no one going in her room because Elle wants to keep the bed just right.  I guess there is always a battle, but I will celebrate one victory of the clean bedroom.
