CTR Covenants

Last week was our annual Children’s Sacrament Program.  This is where the kids in our church, ages 3-11, take over the church meeting.  They sing songs, read scriptures, give talks and say parts about Jesus Christ. It is always wonderful.

This year was a momentous occasion because it was my FIRST and LAST time where all my kids were involved.

Crew gave a talk back in June on “When I take the sacrament, I renew my baptismal covenants.”  The Primary President liked it so much, she asked him to do the same talk for the program.

I wanted to share the talk with you because I think it is very helpful, and it would make a quick and easy Family Home Evening lesson.

Here’s the talk, just as Crew wrote it:

“I got baptized this year, and I made covenants with Heavenly Father.

The CTR emblem can remind me to Choose The Right, but it can also remind me of the covenants I made when I got baptized.

When we listen to the sacrament prayers, we can hear these covenants.  I will read the sacrament prayer and see if you can hear the 3 baptismal covenants that start with C – T – R.

In Doctrine and Covenants, Section 20, Verse 77, we read …

O God, the Eternal Father, we ask thee in the name of thy Son, Jesus Christ, to bless and sanctify this bread to the souls of all those who partake of it, that they may eat in remembrance of the body of thy Son, and witness unto thee, O God, the Eternal Father, that they are willing to take upon them the name of thy Son, and always remember him and keep his commandments which he has given them; that they may always have his Spirit to be with them. Amen.

Did you hear the covenants?

C- reminds us to keep the Commandments

T- reminds us to Take upon His name

R- reminds us always Remember Him

I am glad that I can always remember my baptismal covenants when I hear the sacrament prayers and when I look at the CTR emblem.

In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.”

Crew didn’t want to practice his talk much, so I was nervous when he got up.  As he started speaking, I calmed down. He read the talk clearly and slowly.  The room got quiet. I felt the Spirit strongly as he read the Sacrament prayer.  He did a great job!

On our way home, I was telling him how much I enjoyed his talk.  I told him I felt the Spirit as he spoke.  He said, “I did too. It felt weird. I have never felt that before.”

I love Primary Programs.  And not because my kids get to be in the spotlight, or because the songs are pretty, or because the little Sunbeam says his part so cute.  I love Primary Programs because the Spirit is always there. I feel it, and more importantly my kids feel it.
