14 LOVE Scriptures

Last year I did a 14 Days of Valentines Countdown for my hubby.  I wanted to focus on his love languagephysical touch.

On Valentine’s Day, I passed the banner over to my sister and she used it for the next 14 days: February 14- 27.  My sister made up her own gift cards to put in the cute little chevron paper bags.  When February was over, she passed the banner back to me.

And I plan to pull out the countdown again this year.  (How’s that for recycling, repurposing, and reusing!) But I am going to tweak it a bit.  I am going to do 14 Days of LOVE Scriptures instead.  I guess you could say, I want to bring a little Saint into Saint Valentine’s Day.  And I thought the scriptures could be our Family Devotionals at night.

I got this idea from my cousin, who was inspired by my original post.  She made my banner, but put scriptures inside for her whole family to read. I love when people take my ideas and run with them in their own direction.  Thanks, Jen!

So I got started searching for LOVE scriptures. Did you know that there are 515 results when you search the scriptures for the word “love” on lds.org? I think I read them all trying to find the most applicable, kid-friendly, inspirational ones.  It wasn’t an easy task, and I’m not sure I succeeded, but it is for sure a great start.

As I searched, I found that there are lots of different people and groups of people to love.  So I tried to pick one scripture to represent each group.  I was a few scriptures short of 14, so I had to add some off ones towards the end. But I think this list of scriptures gives us a nice variety and some good teaching points.

Here are the 14 Scriptures and a brief explanation next to them so you can be prepared to discuss.  They are in no particular order except Day 1.  I wanted to start with the scripture of our awesome printable so I could put it up in my home on February 1.  You can read more about this scripture and free printable here.

Day 10: Deuteronomy 6:5 (Love the Lord with all thy heart)

Day 11: Romans 8:39 (Nothing can separate us from the love of God)  Read this post for more insight on that scripture.

Day 12: 1 John 4:18-19 (No fear in love)

Day 13: 1 John 3:18 (Love in deed)

Day 14: John 14:15 (If ye love me, keep my commandments)

So there you go.

I am working on a pdf you can print off, but I ran out of time, and I wanted to get the post up this Mormon Monday so you can start thinking about it before February 1 which is coming right up! Check back later this week for the pdf or just write these scriptures on index cards and slip them into your little bags.

If you haven’t made the banner yet, it is super easy.  You can find instructions here. And just think, you and your sister can use the banner for years to come.  It’s worth the time to make it initially.

  1. Thanks Tiffany. I tweaked your idea just a tad and used your 14 days of Love Scriptures for Activity Days this week! Now my girls have a cute scripture to read every day for the next two weeks.
